As a new mom, finding balance in the chaos of motherhood can feel like an impossible task.
You want to show up for your family, but there’s also this need—this pull—to take care of yourself. Often, though, self-care feels like it’s last on the list. If you're like many moms, you’ve probably wondered how to reclaim your wellness without sacrificing your family’s needs.
You might have also considered therapy or heard of postpartum wellness coaching, but what’s the difference?
The Overwhelm of Motherhood: My Personal Experience
When I became a mom, I had this vision in my mind that I’d be present for every little moment with my baby. I craved that balance—the idea that I could still be me, pursue my career, and also be the hands-on mom I’d always dreamed of. But that dream quickly collided with the reality of my long work hours. Most days, I’d only see my son for a brief moment before he woke up and after he went to bed. It broke my heart to miss so much of his day.
Deep down, I felt torn. I wanted to be there for him 24/7, soaking up every smile and milestone, but I also knew I was neglecting myself. The exhaustion weighed heavy, and the emotional rollercoaster of motherhood had me constantly running on empty. Even though I had family support, it never felt like enough—I needed more. More clarity, more direction, and definitely more time to just breathe.
It wasn’t just about being there for my son anymore; it became about figuring out how I could truly show up for myself and my family. The constant demands of work and home life left me overwhelmed, and I realized I couldn’t continue pouring from an empty cup. I had to learn to prioritize myself, to set boundaries, and to create space where I could recharge.
It wasn’t easy, but the journey to finding that balance was transformative. Now, I’ve discovered ways to be present—not just for my sons, but also for me. It’s a work in progress, but I’ve learned that I can’t show up fully for my family unless I’m also taking care of myself.
Finding that balance didn’t happen overnight, but it started with one small step: giving myself permission to make my wellness a priority. And it’s made all the difference.
This is where postpartum wellness coaching came into my life. And now, as a coach, I’m passionate about helping other moms find that same balance I struggled to achieve.
But how is postpartum wellness coaching different from therapy? And how does it help you prioritize your wellness without neglecting your family?
Postpartum Wellness Coaching vs. Therapy: What’s the Difference?
Both postpartum wellness coaching and therapy are invaluable resources, but they serve different purposes:
Therapy:
Therapy is ideal for addressing deeper emotional and mental health issues. If you’re navigating postpartum depression, anxiety, or past trauma, therapy is a safe space to explore these feelings. Licensed therapists use clinical approaches like talk therapy or cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help heal emotional wounds. Therapy is about working through the past and understanding your mental health on a deeper level.
Postpartum Wellness Coaching:
Wellness coaching, on the other hand, is more action-oriented. It’s not about diagnosing or treating mental health conditions but rather about helping you create practical strategies to manage your daily life. Think of coaching as future-focused and solution-driven. It’s about taking intentional steps to reclaim your identity, set healthy boundaries, and create a self-care routine that fits your life as a mom.
Coaching offers you a roadmap to better well-being. Whether it’s figuring out how to make time for yourself without the guilt, managing your stress more effectively, or finding ways to stay connected to yourself while being fully present for your family, coaching gives you tools and accountability to thrive—not just survive.
